Conference Background
The 2010 International Microbicides Conference (M2010) will be the sixth biennial conference. Currently, this is the only conference that is completely dedicated to microbicides research. Prior conferences have occurred as follows:
- 2000 - Washington, DC, USA: Approximately 550 participants
- 2002 - Antwerp, Belgium: Approximately 600 participants
- 2004 - London, England: Approximately 800 participants
- 2006 - Cape Town, South Africa: Approximately 1,300 participants
- 2008 - New Delhi, India: Approximately 1,140 participants
M2010 is expected to attract about 1,500 participants from emerging / developing and advanced economies. Although attendance is largely impacted by conference location, historically, there has been a large contingent of participants from the Africa region and the Americas, followed by Asia and Europe. As 2010 will mark the conference's 10-year anniversary, the increasing growth in size and prominence is notable. As such, it is fitting that for this milestone the conference will return to the United States where it originated.
