Travel to the USA
Travel Documents
Non U.S. citizens will require a valid passport for entry into the United States. Many travelers will also be required to obtain a visa for entry into the country and / or to transit countries en-route to the U.S. Requirements vary per citizenship. Please be sure to check with your preferred visa service or local Embassy(s) to determine required travel documents. It should be noted that the visa process can be lengthy so it is recommended that you start the process early and allow substantial time to obtain your documents. Your local Embassy officials can advise you of the application process and any required supporting documentation, such as the application, photos, references, and other similar materials. If you need an official letter of invitation to submit with your visa application, please contact us.
Airline Security
Prior to departure, it is recommended that you visit the Web site of the Transportation Security Administration for current information on airline security requirements and other helpful travel information. http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/index.shtm
Currency
The US dollar is the acceptable form of currency in the Pittsburgh area. Foreign currency exchange can be done at the airport and in select hotels and banks. Prior to your departure, it is recommended that you check with your lodging facility to confirm options for currency exchange.
Credit cards are widely accepted, including Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover Card, and Diner's Club. Please be mindful that your credit card company may assess a currency exchange fee for purchases made outside of the country in which the card was issued.
Traveler's checks are widely accepted. Change will be given in US dollars and / or coins.
Receipt of personal or business checks is less common but businesses that accept them will typically require the check to be drawn on a US bank.
Automatic teller machines (ATMs) are widely available but there is usually a surcharge for accessing funds. There may be a charge by both your bank and the bank from which the funds are withdrawn. In addition, please be mindful that your credit card company may assess a currency exchange fee for withdrawals made outside of the country in which the card was issued. Funds will be distributed in US dollars.
